Don t Just Stand There 8 Steps to Make Things Happen

Has this ever happened to you?

You spend hours and hours working on a new process. You dot all the "I"s cross all the "T"s and then some how you still ended up doing it the same ole' way.

You go to a fantastic seminar, you are all pumped up and excited, but then somehow all the stuff you learned just sits on your desk.

Or how about this one. You finally read that book that's been sitting on your nightstand, it had great ideas in it and you see how you could do things a little bit differently to make some more cash. But time goes by, the book ends up on the shelf and you never implement any of those great ideas.

It's like taking the time to research, test drive and buy a new car. Then parking that expensive, shinny new car in the garage and driving the old one.

Don't leave your shinny new process in the garage to collect dust.

Here is a step-by-step system to get you implementing all your hard work.

Step 1: What's in your way?
Determine what resistance there might be before you get started. Are you a procrastinator? Do you need a new web guy? Did you just set up a schedule where your best work needs happen when you're taking your kids to school? Set yourself up for success by dealing with barriers and issues before you get started.

Step 2: Commit to Implement
It takes 21 days to form a habit. So commit to following your new process or plan for 21 days. Come on, that's only 3 weeks. You can do anything for 3 weeks, right?

Step 3: The Proper Training
Give yourself or anyone working with you the proper training they need to in order to follow your process. Everyone (including you) should have all the tools they need and fully understand what needs to be done.

Step 4: Find a Place
Decide where you are going to keep your new process or plan. Do you have a book that you can keep next to you? I am a visual person so I physically tape a new process to the wall in front of me so I always see it. I had one client that saved her new process as her screen saver.

Step 5: Follow the Bouncing Boxes
Actually follow your plan or process. How do you know if it's working if you don't actually do it? Remember you committed to implement.

Step 6: Keep Track of What's Working - And What's Not
As you go along, make notes and keep records of things that you could streamline, delegate out or are not running as smoothly as you would like. You'll use these notes later.

Step 7: Version 2
At the end of 21 days, go through those notes you've been making. Put your consultant's hat on and see if there is anything that will make your process even better. Incorporate those changes into your process and voila, version 2.

Step 8: Count down to Launch
Pick a date when version 2 goes into action. On that date, start the implementation process over again and keep that ball rolling.

Now get out those new processes and start implementing.

When it comes to advertising and marketing your products and services, common sense dictates that the higher the response rate, the better. But just knowing that is not enough. It's important to understand exactly how each additional response can affect your marketing costs and profits. The better your understanding of the potential value of each additional response, the more effort you'll invest into increasing your response rate over time.

Increasing your response rate can increase your net profit in one of two ways. You can either:

1. Maintain (or increase) your marketing investment and frequency and capitalize on your higher response rate to bring in more revenue. If the response rate for an ongoing campaign that reaches 10,000 people can be increased by 20%, let's say from 1.5% to 1.8%, that increases your actual responses from 150 to 180. That may not sound like much, but depending on what you charge for your products and services, those extra 30 responses could add up to more than enough sales to justify the effort.

2. Decrease your marketing investment and frequency, leveraging your higher response rate to maintain the same net number of responses but at a lower cost. The higher your response rate, the less money you need to spend to generate the same amount of business.

Remember that this kind of measurement is only possible using a direct response marketing approach (marketing that solicits immediate action on the part of the recipient, such as an inquiry, request for information or sale), as opposed to a branding or image advertising campaign (marketing that seeks to increase mind share for eventual sale or action). Unless there is a specific call to action ("Call today for a free guide") to generate an immediate and measurable response, you will find it very challenging to gauge a campaign's effectiveness at all.

When Not to Cancel Credit Cards

We have an article that details the benefits of canceling old, unused credit cards, but is this always a good idea? The answer to that is no. There are times when keeping a credit card line open is actually more beneficial to your overall credit health than closing it.

One occasion when you might want to hold off on canceling those older credit cards is when you plan to apply for a major loan. Major loans include such things as a home loan, car loan, boat loan, or other loans in excess of a few thousand dollars.

The reasoning behind this is that closing credit line accounts, especially those that you paid on time and in full, can actually lower your credit score.

Paying down accounts that still have a balance is important to your credit score, but simply closing paid off accounts will not help you improve your credit score at all. As mentioned above, canceling a large amount of unused credit may actually hurt your overall credit score.

You may be saying to yourself: That doesn't make sense!

Here is how this works. It has to do with how credit bureaus calculate your score.

The reporting agencies use many different factors when figuring out your credit score and one of the factors that they use is the total amount of debt you have on your credit cards and the revolving accounts that you have divided by the total amount of debt available on those accounts. Once these calculations are done, a number less than 1 (one) will occur.

This fractional number is one way they use to judge your credit worthiness. The lower this fraction is the better. To help you better understand this, if the resultant number was exactly 1, then that would mean that your outstanding debt is equal to your available credit and you would be at the maximum level, or maxed out for credit.

For example, if you had $5000 in current debt and you had $15,000 in your various credit lines, you would divide $5000 by $15,000 and you would get 1/3. This means you are currently using 1/3 of the credit that is currently available to you.

To take this a step further: If you cancel an old credit card that has a $5,000 limit (but no current balance owed on it) you will still have the same $5000 in current debt (see above example) but you only have $10,000 in your credit lines (as compared to the $15,000 mentioned above). When you do the math you come up with the fraction of 陆. In other words, you are using 陆 of the credit that is available.

Keep in mind that the closer you get to the number 1, the less attractive you are for future credit.

The best advice for anyone contemplating a home or auto loan is to keep the credit lines that you have until after you have finalized the loan itself. Then it is safe to cancel the card.

If you are not planning a major loan activity and the balances on your old cards is zero, go ahead and close them out. This will not hurt your credit score. About the author:

If you are going abroad, then using a credit card can be the safest and most effective way of carrying currency. But what steps should you take to make sure your card is the best one to use abroad? Here is some advice about how to effectively use your credit cards whilst abroad:

Pick a universal card

If you are travelling overseas, then try and pick a card that you know will work in most countries. Taking store cards or lesser known cards can defeat the point of bringing your card with you. Stick to widely accepted credit types like Visa and MasterCard.

Ask about fees

Before you go away, ask your card issuer what the fees are for using your card abroad. If you have more than one card, then take the one with the best rates for withdrawing money and making transactions. Although you get better exchange rates with your card, this is useless if you are charged high fees for taking out foreign currency by your card issuer.

Carry card issuer numbers

Make sure that you have a number that you can call your card issuer on should anything go wrong. The normal number you call is unlikely to work, so before you go you should get their number for international calls. Ask your card issuer about arrangements should your card be lost or stolen.

Notify your issuer

If you are going somewhere that is out of your regular routine, then it is a good idea to notify your card issuer that you are going away. If your card company sees your card being used in strange places, they might suspend your account. Although you can sort this out quickly, it saves you worries and trouble if you just let them know before you go away that you will be using your card abroad.

Check your dates

Before you go abroad, check the expiration dates and credit limits of your cards. You don't want to be on holiday and not be able to enjoy yourself because your card has expired or you have run out of credit. If you don't think you will have enough credit then you could get your limit extended or take a couple of cards.

Keep all receipts

The most important thing to do when abroad is to keep all your receipts. If you are overcharged for anything then you want to be able to prove this, and if you keep all of your receipts you can track exactly what and how much you have spent.

Credit is safest

Although you might think that taking an ATM card is the best idea, credit cards are much safer as they have added security measures such as purchase protection. Most of the time you can use your credit card in an ATM if you need to, but you should try and charge it as much as possible as this will save you money. If you can be disciplined with your record keeping and plan in advance, then taking your credit card abroad will make your spending safer and hassle free.
